When Historians Fail to Remind Us - by Anny Justin Udofia

Look well, Nigerians.

From the days of Nnamdi Azikiwe and Obafemi Awolowo; whenever you see the North and West engage in a political marriage, tending to forget all their previous misgivings towards each other, know that there is a grand plot by the schemers that had the resources of the country in their pockets for decades to annihilate the East/ South and the good people of Nigeria, and cordon them into a cranny filled with penury and hardship.

Recently, the Northern dictator that bastardized Chief Obafemi Awolowo's free Education Scheme, cancelled the Lagos MetroLine rail projects (and even went ahead to pay what was enough to complete the project as compensation to the French company that handled it),  sent Dodan Barracks Army men to assault the family of the Minister of State for Agriculture, Chief Olu Awotesu, and later imprisoned the Chief for almost two years without trial. Locked up Bisi Onabanjo and Micheal Ajasin (even when the 'kangaroo' courts said these Yoruba men were not guilty). Imprisoned Fela Kuti for keeping some exchange for his band's upkeep while in truth it was about his social critique type of music (Human right violation), sent his brother to the cell for fighting for Fela's release. Locked up Tai Solarin (even without an inhaler to contain
his asthma), Ayo Oyewumi (who became blind in Buhari’s detention) and Busari Adelakun, (who
died of chronic ulcer complications developed in Buhari’s jail); and even seized Chief Obafemi
Awolowo’s passport for no just cause thereby denying the old man visits to his doctors
at Mayo Clinic, Rochester Minnesota, USA during the years when he ruled Nigeria. That
same dictator has been forgiven by the Yorubas (front-runners) even when he shunned the
opportunity to appear before the Oputa Panel of 1999 to explain these Human Right violations
and tender an apology.

I repeat, whenever there is an occurrence of this callous political marriage, the South/ East and innocent Nigerians should be careful. I'm saying in essence that, I will still vote
Jonathan and make do with the 'slow rate' of development with hope, knowing it has gotten
better than it used to be than vote the Monster domiciled in the frail form of a Northern
dictator that almost ruined Nigeria. Buhari's type of change is not for me. Come February 14, Yorubaland should show that they have not been hog-washed to forget their
trails in the hand of this decimator. VOTE WISELY NIGERIANS.

I_don_talk_my_own !

Now about those that will read this and not see any form of sense except to dissect and read loose meanings into it, this is for you: I do not have a problem with Buhari's age, his certificate racketeerings, nor his Tribe. I just have a problem with Nigerians seeking for a positive change in a negative light. Lest we forget posterity is a product of our histories. Let's remember General. Buhari for what we remember him for.
